Corsets
Our corsets are the real deal. We use a combination of spiral and flat steel boning, with a ribbon reinforced waist so you can use them for tight lacing or waist training. Spiral steel is flexible but keeps its original shape, so you’ll never get those pesky kinks and bends that plastic boning does.
A good corset should be comfortable and hold you tightly, like a lover. Not poky and bendy, like a wayward toddler.
This is not fast fashion!
Because each body and the person in it is different, our corsets are custom made to order only. While we recommend coming into our Melbourne studio for a consultation, phone consultations are also an option. Our designer Rachel will guide you through choosing the best style and materials for you.
We source our materials as ethically as possible without compromising quality. The Definite Article uses a combination of local suppliers, recycling, and upcycling.

Anna Waspie Underbust
‘Waspie’ is short for ‘wasp waist’, and as the name implies this corset is all about cinching your waist for maximum hourglass! Comparable to a wide, heavy-duty belt this style is a great first corset. It can be worn over clothing or underneath as shapewear.
Nora Curvy Underbust
This longer line design extends from just below the bust to the hips, shaping your whole midsection. It cinches the waist and flares at the hips, creating a smooth and controlled hourglass shape. Like the Anna waspie, it can be worn over or under your clothing.
Sonya Peaked Underbust
A modernised Victorian style, this corset features a high back for smoothing the bra line, giving you a seamless figure from bust to hip. It accentuates the bust without restricting movement.
Hope Sweetheart Overbust
Overbust corsets, as the name implies, fit over the bust and are designed to be worn as outerwear without any undergarments. The Hope style is straight out of Jessica Rabbit’s closet - generously proportioned in the hips and bust! I also has a higher back to smooth the silhouette, keeping control of your shape.
This style works best on a larger bust, but can easily be tailored to whatever size you need.
Dolores Overbust
A modern style with a sweetheart neckline, Dolores is a less exaggerated version of the Hope corset. Suited to any body shape, this style with cinch your waist and smooth your whole torso.
Erin Overbust
A modern interpretation of a late Victorian style, Erin has gentle bust and hip shaping while still offering the waist cinching of the Victorian era. Great for all body shapes.
